Hey,
Motivational Thursdays are BACK.. I know, i know.. it's been a long time but this break was needed in order for me to provide you amazing new content. I'm hoping you're having a good week. I hope you're feeling fresh and joyful. If not, don't think of it as a bad thing there's 3 other days to go and after every dark night there's a brighter day..your bright day is on it's way.
I feel as a young black girl, I should have so many barriers stopping me from what I want to achieve, the whole idea of being a minority is having minor opportunities, right? My Mum always told me that I have to work 2x as hard because I am black, female and from East London.
Growing up I always thought these three attributes could limit me from doing what I want to do until I got to a certain age and realised in fact being a minority is THE BEST THING EVER.
We all our minorities in our own way, whether it's age, race, sexuality, location, religion.. we all have a barrier that limits our options and one thing I hate is the fact the media will never tell you being a minority is important, the fact that you are a minority should even be your WHY, that should be the reason why you shouldn't stop pursuing anything you want to. Why should the fact that I am black, young and female limit me from the dream of being successful? the whole advantage is being minority is the fact you're UNIQUE.. you're one of the few who SHOULD do it, COULD do it and WILL do it.
Barrack Obama is an amazing example fair enough many people would argue that this guy is corrupt however growing up the only president I could ever dream of was white, rich and white. This is the reality I live in and many other minorities do, I hope my post doesn't offend anyone by the way.
I am always told 'you've achieved so much for your age' my reply is always thank you because I am humbled by the fact that I am being praised but why should the fact that I am young be the only reason why it's an achievement? why can't it just be the fact I have done it and not the fact that I am young? do you see what I mean? being a minority is actually an advantage, people will always praise you 10x more for the fact you're one of a kind.
I have had so many people in the past try apply for a university, job or work experience and they're scared.. SCARED because they don't fit the criteria, the reason why you should apply is because you don't fit the criteria.. the confidence will show and I think it's so important you don't let the minority attribute of your life effect the majority of your life.
For all the people who have been told you can't do something because of who you are, DO IT ANYWAY BECAUSE YOU WILL STAND OUT.. Many people lined up to watch the red moon, why though? it's only a moon. Many people will line up to push your success, why? because you're only a minority.
